NYMag: What is it about Pixar?
Mortimer: I don’t know! They gave a me a glass of wine and sushi at the end, and I remember thinking This is amazing, I love this place, and I never want to leave. But there’s this central atrium where everyone has to pass through it at least once a day and it’s all about being with the people that you’re working with, and not just the people you’re working with on a daily basis. There’s this amazing coffee shop and this delicious food and they all sort of sit and chill and hang, and then I got showed around the offices, and each animator and designer is allowed to build his own office space.
“So, you ask, why do I use Facebook? The answer is obvious: Because other folks do, and they’re happy with it and I don’t mind making it easy for them to get in touch with me. There’s not a lot to say about the Verizon iPhone that wasn’t said months ago at this point, which is oddly fascinating in its own way. Objectively, this should not be a big deal, right? Nobody wastes much ink (or many pixels) speculating about what the next Blackberry or Android device means for…
I haven’t been the biggest fan of recent Portishead but this story just made me smile real wide and made me want to buy the album.
This also got me to think, “well, their last record came and went, but hey, what if this works and others try and replicate it.” Also reminded me of Downfall Hitler screaming “NEIN! NEIN! NEIN! NEIN! NEIN!”
I had once given Super Sad True Love Story my attention. But me being me, shit wasn’t full focused. Now after gifting my unsigned copy, I am starting it again. Now, I realize this would have been a crown jewel in my Senior Project.
